The event is scheduled to commence at 1pm on Tuesday, 4 August, says Roland Neururer, president of Cook Islands Triathlon Association Inc.

With the continued support of major sponsor BSP, this year’s race is expected to deliver another challenging ride for participants.

“Following the conclusion of the triathlon season, the cycle series provides local athletes with an excellent opportunity to remain active, strengthen endurance, and experience the teamwork involved in group cycling,” says Neururer.

Training rides were held on Thursdays and Saturdays from the Social Centre in Nikao, with up to 10 cyclists regularly taking part each week.

“These sessions focus on gradually increasing distance, beginning at 32km and building weekly in preparation for the 100km race.”

To ensure an enjoyable experience for all participants, cyclists were divided into two to three groups, ranging from competitive and experienced riders to those participating at a more social pace.

“The Cook Islands Triathlon Association respectfully reminds motorists to exercise caution around cyclists on the roads, particularly from 1pm next Tuesday, as riders may reach speeds of 35–45km/hour,” urges Neururer.

“Safety remains a priority as participation continues to increase.”
