A memorial event for a seven-year-old schoolgirl and airline employee Elvis Green, who both died in a tragic incident at a home in the East End, is to be held today, 21 Oct.
A march and candlelight vigil in tribute to the child, who the Compass has chosen not to name, and Green, who was 65, will travel from East End Primary School, where the girl was a pupil, to Broadleaf Lane, near where Green lived.
Green and the girl were given CPR and rushed to hospital after emergency services were alerted early on Tuesday, 13 Oct., but they were later pronounced dead by doctors.
Two other young girls in the house, students at the same school, were also taken to hospital for treatment.
News of the memorial event, which will start at 7pm, came as police said that the cause of death will not be disclosed until the end of the police investigation into the incident.
A police spokeswoman told the Compass, “We don’t speak to cause of death in incidents such as these until the coroner has reviewed and made her determination and that will not take place until the end of an investigation.”
She said that the police investigation continues.
The spokeswoman added, “The juvenile females that were transported to the hospital for treatment are still believed to be stable as their treatment continues.”
News of the deaths sparked an outpouring of grief in the tight-knit East End community.
Organisers say the vigil will provide an opportunity for family, friends and members of the wider community to come together in remembrance, reflect on the lives of Elvis Green and the young girl, and pay their respects.
