Proqual Diagnostic Imaging has joined forces with the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) to help improve access to breast cancer screening for Namibian women.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month known as “Pink October” has been celebrated in October since the 1980s.

On this day, people around the world adopt the pink colour and display a pink ribbon to raise awareness about the importance of prevention and routine screening for the early diagnosis of breast cancer, now the second most diagnosed cancer globally. As part of the collaboration and in support of Breast Cancer Awareness October, Proqual Diagnostic Imaging will sponsor mammogram scans to the value of N$50 000. This will be allocated at the discretion of CAN’s clinical team to vulnerable women in need. The partnership will also see 50% discounted mammogram rates extended to CAN and used in support of state patients for the next six months. This will help make specialised breast imaging more accessible to patients who may otherwise struggle to afford private diagnostic services.

In addition, Proqual Diagnostic Imaging will host two free breast cancer screening events in collaboration with CAN on Wednesday 21 and 28 October 2026 at their facility at Heritage Square, Robert Mugabe Avenue in Windhoek’s CBD.

According to Proqual Diagnostic Imaging’s General Manager Diaan Descende, access to quality healthcare should not be limited by financial circumstances.

“Through this initiative, we hope to make breast cancer screening more accessible to women in need who may struggle to afford the service,” he said. “This initiative reflects our support in a practical and meaningful way to the Cancer Association’s continued efforts to promote breast cancer awareness and improve access to screening across Namibia.” The collaboration brings together CAN’s experience in cancer awareness, community engagement, and screening with Proqual Diagnostic Imaging’s specialised breast-imaging capabilities, creating a practical partnership aimed at making a meaningful difference this Pink October and beyond.

CAN CEO Rolf Hansen outlines the impact that takes place when organisations partner and combine their strengths around a shared purpose.  “Breast cancer awareness must ultimately translate into access. Then access empowers screening, early detection, diagnosis, and appropriate care. We are grateful to Proqual Diagnostic Imaging for turning its commitment into practical support for women who need it most,” Hansen stated.  -akaure@nepc.com.na
