A man wanted in connection with an attempted murder in Cayman has appeared in a Jamaican court for extradition proceedings.

Michael Gollab, a Jamaican national aged 22, appeared in the dock in Kingston and was further remanded in custody while extradition efforts continue.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service said Gollab was wanted in connection with the stabbing of a woman, said to be his girlfriend, in the Ultra Lounge on Smith Road.

Gollab and two other men were arrested after they were rescued from a vessel identified as “J Big Cot” by a cargo ship that left Cayman en route to Kingston on Saturday, 29 Aug. The three men said the vessel had been adrift for five days after it broke down.

The three were taken to Kingston, where officers from the Jamaica Constabulary Force identified Gollab and arrested him in connection with the stabbing, which happened on 30 June.

The RCIPS said in a press release issued on 2 Sept. that Gollab and the two other men, identified as a Caymanian and a Jamaican national, remain in custody. Police said, “The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the RCIPS, in collaboration with regional partners, including the Jamaica Constabulary Force.”

“Big J Cot” does not appear on the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry. The Jamaica Ship Registry confirmed it was not registered there either.

Cayman police have been searching for Gollab since the June stabbing incident.

Police are appealing for anyone with information on the incident or knowledge of “Big J Cot” to contact George Town CID on 949-4222.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force has been asked for comment.
